Ear Candles: For Better Hearing

For people suffering from slight hearing loss, a doctor may recommend using an ear candle. Ear candles are made from beeswax and unbleached cotton cloths. They are usually from nine to twelve inches long and have a burning time of ten minutes. Candling relieves pressure in the ear and sinus, eliminates ear itching, and helps fight infection.
The cone shaped candle is placed in the ear and lit, which created a vacuum effect. The candle's smoke will gently cleanse the ear of wax and debris as it soothes the sinuses and nasal cavities. This is a practice that has been referenced back to the year 2500 B.C. and was used by ancient cultures, such as the Egyptians.
It is argued that the ear candles can be more harmful than helpful. The wax has a chance of going into the ear if it is not done properly, which may stick to the eardrum and will usually need to be removed with minor surgery. This creates a great risk of hearing loss. People who attempt to use ear candles without another person present to help have created fire hazards, ear canal obstruction, and external burns among other things.
Other have argued that ear candles do not work. The impurities that some have reported to be removed have been nothing more than the ashes from the burned product. They also report that the vacuuming necessary to remove wax and debris would require much more power than the candle produces.
In Germany, medical schools teach the proper ear candling techniques to the students. This and the fact that it has been done for centuries argue that it is safe and as well as effective. However, before attempting to do the procedure yourself or to pay to get it done, you should evaluate whether you would risk what some to believe to be quite dangerous.
